Edmonton Oilers Game One Was A Complete Tire Fire
After waiting months to watch the Edmonton Oilers play a game that actually means anything the Edmonton Oilers got blown out on the road by the Vancouver Canucks by a final score of 8-1.
The only good thing to come out of this game was the fact that the next 81 games can’t be as bad as this game. The Edmonton Oilers played a bad overall team game and the score reflected that fact.
The Oilers team did not seem interested in this game from puck drop. They weren’t out-skilled, but they were outdone in every other category. This was a concern for me going into this game.
There is no doubt on paper that the Edmonton Oilers have the better team, but you need to play smart hockey to win and the Oilers shot themselves in the foot multiple times and it cost them.
The lone bright spot was Leon Draisaitl scoring a goal on the powerplay. Unfortunately, when he scored the game was pretty much out of reach already. Another thing that could be looked at as a positive is you can’t really blame the goalies for the goals as the rest of the team did them no favours.
Hopefully, The Edmonton Oilers Can Turn This Around
The Edmonton Oilers now have two days off and don’t play again till Saturday when they will host the Vancouver Canucks at home. Hopefully, they will take these days to smarten up and realize that it is the NHL and games aren’t just given to you.
On another note, it would be nice to see this lineup with Ekholm in it. It’s not like he would have changed the outcome of this game, but he is better than a majority of the Edmonton Oilers blueline.
If the Edmonton Oilers can win on Saturday I will take a few steps back from the edge, but till then I will be sitting here assuming that the season is over cause they lost the first game. But in all seriousness, it is just one game. If these habits last into game 3 or 4 then we need to start to worry.
