It’s no secret to anyone that Oilers forward Connor McDavid has been the team’s MVP up until this point, and there have been no weaknesses in his game. He is well on his way to another plethora of awards at the conclusion of the season. With that being said, here is the brief report card on McDavid’s play up until the all-star break, with no surprises involved.

Scoring: A++

Playmaking: A+++

Defensive Game: A+

Special Teams: A++

Overall Grade: A+++

McDavid is the league’s leading scorer and there is a sizeable gap between him and the player in second place, which by the way, is Leon Draisaitl. With 41 goals and 51 assists for 92 points through 50 games, he continues to be the best player in the NHL by a wide margin. His skating ability, his scoring, his playmaking, everything has been at another level this season. Just when someone says he can’t get any better, somehow he does.

There is no doubt in my mind McDavid will run away with a majority of the awards at the conclusion of the season. He will be the MVP, and he will likely continue to climb toward more Oilers records as the games go on. He is already at 280 goals, 509 assists, and 789 points through only 537 games. He is a generational talent that will likely go down as one of the best players on the planet to ever play the game of hockey.

The last half of the season will be key for McDavid and the Oilers, but I have no worries whatsoever when it comes to if he can keep up this level of play. I predict McDavid breaks 55 goals and 150 points. He will lead the league in points yet again and will be one of the key players involved in bringing the Oilers toward a Stanley Cup.
