The Edmonton Oilers look like they are finding their groove lately, with their successes coming from their west coast trip that had them winning 3 out of 4 games. A much-needed surge by this Oilers team who is barely clinging to the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 51 points. Although they got a little bit of breathing room from teams chasing them on the standings, this team cannot simply sit and do absolutely nothing to improve their lineup for the playoff race.

There are still multiple question marks to answer within this lineup from the bottom 6 to their top defensemen, not to mention, their goaltending concerns. At least for now, with the late success, some of those questions get masked, but let us not get fooled about what is actually behind it. Before it shows its ugly face again, Ken Holland and the Oilers brass must carefully map out what they want to accomplish on or before the trade deadline.

The Edmonton Oilers Must Do Something

This team cannot waste what has been close to a historic scoring run by Connor McDavid, who has 83 points way before the All-Star break. With the kind of season McDavid is having, it will be catastrophic for the Oilers if they miss the playoffs this season, and there will be more questions to answer if they do not address what they needed to address to improve the team around McDavid.

One of the questions that must be answered on or before the trade deadline, is whether or not Ken Holland has the guts to pull the trigger to ship struggling winger Jesse Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi is doing the best he could on the ice to help the Edmonton Oilers win, that is not lost in our minds, however, he is not getting paid only to be checking line personnel doing the dirty work, he was signed to be an integral part of the Oilers’ top 6.

The lack of production from Puljujarvi this season might signal the Oilers’ front office to swallow their pride and see what they can get for him by the trade deadline. With all those said, here are the 3 potential landing spots for Jesse Puljujarvi on a trade.
