Don’t expect The Edmonton Oilers to trade for these 3 players

LW Patrick Kane

During the offseason there were noises that the Edmonton Oilers were looking to see if they can add Chicago Blackhawks’ star Patrick Kane to their team. Now, with the loss of Evander Kane, no relation, this idea might get revisited again. I want this trade to happen as much as most of us want to see it happen, but the reality of this coming to fruition might be slim.

I am not doubting Ken Holland’s ability to make this trade work, but at a glance and it will be a hard trade to manufacture. Even after placing Evander Kane on LTIR, which frees up some cap room, the Oilers will still need to shed some more money to accommodate Patty Kane.

Patty Kane still has a cap hit of $10.5 million this year, and with the Oilers up against the cap this season, it will take some convincing from Holland to the Blackhawks or other teams, to take a significant cap salary like a Tyson Barrie, who is owed, $4.5 million over the next 2 years. I will be shocked if the Oilers find a way to add Kane and I will be the one to jump off my seat when that happens. However, let us not get our hopes up that much as we might find ourselves disappointed if it does not happen.
