Jonathan Toews
For this one I am going back to the Chicago Blackhawks. Jonathan Toews for me is one of the top options of players I thought the Edmonton Oilers should be looking at getting at the trade deadline, even if Evander Kane didn’t get hurt.
Now that Kane is hurt it now makes more sense to me. Toews wouldn’t go and play the wing with Connor McDavid and be an exact Evander Kane replacement, but he could play second line center and bump up Leon Draisatil it McDavid’s wing.
This is actually would improve the Edmonton Oilers first line more than if Evander Kane was playing on the line. It does that and doesn’t severally hurt the second line. No offence to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but Jonathan Toews is better built for a number 2 center than he is.
Toews is also off to a fairly solid start point wise this year also. In 13 games Toews has 7 goals and 3 assists. With that amount of goals he would be tied for 3rd on the Edmonton Oilers in goals and that’s with Toews playing on a less skilled Blackhawks team.
Internal would be best bet for the Edmonton Oilers
Even though it would be nice to see one of these three played wearing an Edmonton Oilers uniform, I don’t know if it is going to happen. What the Edmonton Oilers really would like to happen is this hole to be filled by a current player.
There’s three players that need to step up their game in order to fill that role. Dylan Holloway, Jesse Puljujarvi and Kailer Yamamoto. These three players will be given the most opportunities to try and fill that spot. If none of them can stick in that role that is when a trade may happen.
