With the gruesome injury to Evander Kane a few days behind us and one Edmonton Oilers game in the books since then I think it was pretty clear the Edmonton Oilers are going to miss Evander Kane.

In Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning Patrick Maroon’s skate cut a deep gash in Evander Kane’s wrist. He was rushed to a hospital where he had surgery to repair the wrist. Unfortunately for the Edmonton Oilers the recovery time is an estimated 3 to 4 months.

Now that we know Evander is on his way to recovery the Edmonton Oilers need to figure out who will take his spot in the lineup. Kane is a very important player on this team. In 14 games this year Kane already has 5 goals and 9 assist for 13 points. That is a lot of production to be replaced.

In Thursday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes it showed just how big of a hole can be made when Evander Kane isn’t in the lineup. The question is now can someone from the Edmonton Oilers current roster fill it or do they need to look outside of the organization.

I think they will try for a couple games to get the replacement to come from within the organization. If this doesn’t work and the Edmonton Oilers start losing games, they will need to find a replacement during a trade.

I have put a list of three players that I think the Edmonton Oilers could target if they were looking to make a trade to replace the injured Evander Kane. For all these players to come to Edmonton there would have to be cap going the other way, but that’s an issue for another article.
