A few days ago I wrote an article on which defenceman should be run the Edmonton Oilers first unit powerplay. Today I am going to look at who on the Edmonton Oilers roster should be playing the wings with Connor McDavid.
The good news for this season’s Edmonton Oilers team is there is several options for these coveted spots. In years past there were only a few good options and a couple of players that could maybe play with McDavid.
There will be no more hoping that maybe Kassian will get hot with McDavid this season. This year there is the likes of Hyman, Kane, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins that could easily fit on that line and not have to hope they can play there.
It is nice to finally for the first time in his career to have a plethora of options to play with the McDavid. Having this many players makes it so that you could split McDavid and Draisaitl up and still have two lines that should dominate the other team.
To play with McDavid you need to have one of two things speed or the ability to score goals. Every player I listed above has either one or both of these skills. I think it will be players with a combo of both of these assets that fill these roles.
