The Edmonton Oilers are really close to being a safe bet for a Stanley Cup winner, and they have a real good shot at doing it soon. Today’s Rumour Roundup highlights a few potential fits as the season is right around the corner.

Chychrun, Klingberg listed as Options on Blue Line

Mark Spector mentioned on Oilers Now that the Edmonton Oilers would be interested in John Klingberg at the trade deadline should he become available. The former Dallas Star, and current Anaheim Ducks defender signed a one year deal making him an attractive rental option come the final stretch of the season.

Allan Mitchell of the Athletic “doesn’t rule out” the idea of the Oilers making a move for Jakob Chychrun, who the Arizona Coyotes have held onto despite plenty of trade rumours over the last couple of seasons.

I like either of these options, but I like Chychrun a lot more. The only problem is I think they’ll both cost a ridiculous amount of assets, which I wouldn’t want to give up in exchange for a rental.

Patrick Kane: Future Edmonton Oiler?

No, I don’t think so. But the rumour has definitely been floated so it has to be talked about.

If Patrick Kane joins the Oilers top 6, that becomes the most dangerous offensive team the NHL has ever seen. You have Kane and McDavid who are arguably the two best playmakers of the decade, with Leon Draisaitl, Evander Kane, Darnell Nurse and Zach Hyman amongst others as the supporting cast. This team would simply be unstoppable

Similar issues with Klingberg and Chychrun, is the price. Kane would likely cost 3 assets. A trade would likely look like Broberg or Bourgault with a first and a second round pick, but more may be added depending on the amount of retention from the Blackhawks part.
