Jaroslav Halak

With the potential of Mike Smith retiring or perhaps going the LTIR route, the Edmonton Oilers may also be in the hunt for a veteran back-up. Jaroslav Halak would fill that role perfectly. Halak has averaged over a 0.900 save percentage his entire career except for one year where it was 0.899%

For a veteran back up that is perfect. For a back-up you want them to come in and not have there be a large drop off from the starter. Halak has proven that in past few years. Halak also has the ability to be a starter.

Although it has been a couple years, Halak used to be a 50-40 game a year starter. This is the amount of starts that could be required if it is just him and Stuart Skinner backstopping the Edmonton Oilers this season.

If you can bring in Halak for a one year deal for under $2 million that would be a steal of a deal. The good news is there may not be too many teams interested in him this offseason. If there aren’t many offers coming his way the Edmonton Oilers should be able to get him quite cheap.

A Key Offseason

This offseason is going to be another important one. This team cannot take a step backwards. There will be a lot of pressure on management to make the right moves in the next few months.

Hopefully they make the right moves and we are watching the Edmonton Oilers in at least the Western Conference Finals again.
