The Battle of Alberta is a bitter of a rivalry as any the NHL has to offer. And guess what? When all the cards were down, the Edmonton Oilers came out on top.
The Edmonton Oilers are in the Western Conference Finals after taking care of business in the Battle of Alberta.
Starting in 1980, the Oilers and Flames began a naturally hateful rivalry. The year previous, Edmonton joined the NHL. In 1980 the Atlanta Flames relocated to Calgary. Separated by just three hours (and about 300km), it was only a matter of time before the two teams would become bitter rivals.
By the mid-1980’s, they were just that. Fast forward 40 years for the latest installment.
It took just five games as the Oilers reminded the hated Flames who the better team is. And we know you want to celebrate.
