After a dominating game Sunday the Edmonton Oilers look to push the Calgary Flames to the brink of elimination tonight down at Rogers Place.

7:30 PM MST. 1-2. Sportsnet. Oilers -1.5. 148. 112. Tuesday. May 24. 2-1

The Edmonton Oilers played their best game of the series last game and possible their best first period as well. If the Edmonton Oilers want to go up 3-1 in the series against the Calgary Flames they are going to have to keep playing just like that.

The Oilers need to be better than they were in game 4 against the Los Angeles Kings. In that game they came out as if they Kings were going to let them win the series. That was not the case. The Kings came out a beat the Oilers effortlessly.

I don’t think they will do that against the Calgary Flames tonight. There is a lot more emotion in this series and the the Edmonton Oilers are going to want to bury the Flames. With the skill of this Oilers team it is definitely something they are capable of.

Even with the the skill I still think there are a few keys that the Edmonton Oilers need if they want to win this game:

1.Get The Powerplay Going

This is something throughout the regular season that wasn’t an issue, but here in the playoffs it has. In this series so far the Edmonton Oilers have gone 1/14 on the powerplay. That just isn’t good enough.

If the Oilers powerplay gets back to its regular season numbers then the Flames are in real trouble. Having 4, 6 and 4 chances in the games 1, 2 and 3 if the Oilers even averaged 25% they would have added at least one more goal a game.

If they want to bury the Flames tonight I think the Edmonton Oilers will need to score at least one on the powerplay. It doesn’t mean they will lose if they don’t, it will just be very helpful if they do.

2.McDavid Being McDavid

So far this series Connor McDavid has been a pure wizard with the puck. The Calgary Flames have no answer for his speed and skill right now. I don’t see that changing tonight.

My best suggestion for the Flames is to maybe try and put their shutdown line against him. So far this series they have been matching power with power and the McDavid line has been clearly out powering them.

If they put the Backlund line against McDavid, hopefully they can minimize the damage. This will also open up the Gaudreau line for an easier target to score against. Hopefully for them if the McDavid line scores then the Gaudreau line can get it back.

If McDavid goes off for another 3 point effort tonight, there will be no stopping him in this series and the Flames will be as good a gone.

3.Don’t Give Them A Chance To Get Back

I mentioned it above and I will mention it here again. The Edmonton Oilers can not go easy on the Flames tonight. If the Flames win tonight they will be heading back to Calgary with the series tied.

I think the Edmonton Oilers learned a lesson from the Kings series and they won’t let it happen again. I think we will see another strong start tonight. If we don’t I think they will lose again and you don’t want Calgary to have any momentum in this series.

Right now the Edmonton Oilers have all the momentum and if they win tonight they will have 3 chances to take this team to the Western Conference Finals.

Prediction

Tonight I think the Edmonton Oilers are going to come out flying and get a quick goal. They will ride the momentum from last game right into this one. It will be a hard fought battle after the first goal, but the Oilers will hold on.

I have the score being 4-2, with he Edmonton Oilers getting an empty net goal late in the game. I think they will be up 2-0 at some point in the game and things are going to get very nerve racking for all Oilers fans.
