This one is more unrealistic and would require the San Jose Sharks to make plenty of moves before even considering bringing in Bouchard, but assuming they make these moves, moving out Balcers, Merkley and a first round pick is a good price to pay for a defensemen that will likely become their number one D man for years to come. The Oilers bring in Balcers and Merkley, who both have established themselves as depth NHL players while always wanting to compete for a higher role, which will add some internal competition throughout their lineup.

The young age of Bouchard only adds to his value that stems from his offensive ability as a player. His ability to play am average defensive game but an elite offensive game at the age of 22 is something the league hasn’t seen in a while. Bouchard needs to work on his game in his own zone, and he will slowly turn into a Norris trophy candidate.

The Oilers could get even more for Bouchard. Add in a depth forward or a veteran player from the Sharks like Scott Reedy or Radim Simek. The Oilers would likely be winning the trade no matter where Bouchard is moved too, but the likelihood of him getting moved in the next few years in slim to none.
