This is a really big game for the the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights. When it comes to this point in the season the 2 points at risk are a big 2 points. If Vegas wins they will pass the LA Kings for sole possession of 3rd in the Pacific at least till the Kings play later tonight.

If the Edmonton Oilers win it will pretty much secure them in the second spot in the Pacific giving them home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. If I were the Oilers I think I would rather play a Kings team that is struggling right now that a hot Vegas in the first round.

This is another reason why I think this is a game the Oilers need to win. Not only will they slow do the Golden Knights in catching the Kings. It will also show that if Vegas does pass Los Angeles that the Edmonton Oilers can beat the Knights.

Both the Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers are riding very similar streaks. In their last 10 games they are both 7-2-1. Both teams have picked a great time in the season to get hot.

Riding a hot streak into the playoffs is a big momentum boost heading in. Lots of hockey is mental, and if you are already in a winning mind frame when you start playing it is easy to maintain that.

If the Edmonton Oilers win tonight they will add another little but of doubt in the Vegas Golden Knights playoff chances. Vegas should be the more hungry team out there today as they need the win.

It would be nice to see the Edmonton Oilers play spoiler and help get the expansion Golden Knights their first taste of not making the playoffs. I know as an Oiler fan I have had my fair share of draft rank watching… It’s the Golden Knights turn to give that a try.

Edmonton Oilers Projected Lines

Since the Edmonton Oilers had a commanding win last game against the Nashville Predators, I don’t expect any changes. The only change may be the inclusion of Josh Archibald or Mikko Koskinen.

Vegas Golden Knights Projected Lines

Same as the Edmonton Oilers I don’t expect much changes as the Knights also won their last game fairly handily. The goaltender position is a spot were we may see a change.
