The Edmonton Oilers are expected to sign F Carter Savoie out of the University of Denver (NCAA) after an outstanding second season with the team. According to Jeff Marek, along with the belief of Jim Matheson, Savoie will be leaving the NCAA to sign an entry level deal with Edmonton. He could begin playing in Bakersfield as early as this season.

Savoie, 20, has spent the last 2 seasons with the University of Denver (NCAA) totalling 65 points and 60 penalty minutes through 63 games played. Standing at 5’9, 192 Pounds, Carter is the older brother to 2022 top prospect Matthew Savoie, who plays for the Winnipeg Ice (WHL). The standout forward helped lead his team to a championship with a win over Minnesota State. Savoie had the OT winner against Michigan to send his team to the finals of the Frozen Four.

Savoie has also spent time with the Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL) where over 2 seasons, he amassed 172 points through 102 games. The young gun grew up playing in St. Albert, Alberta. While playing for the St. Albert Sabres U15 AAA Team (AMBHL) he averaged 2 points per game through 36 games, totalling 72.

Carter Savoie was selected 100th overall by the Oilers in the 2020 draft, and has only improved his game with his return to NCAA. The young star is one of many forwards in the teams already stacked prospect pool. As I mentioned above, he has been a standout, and shouldn’t have a problem getting used to pro level hockey, especially with the fire power he will be surrounded with in the AHL.

Savoie will likely spend a season or two with the Condors before having a shot at joining the Oilers. He definitely has the ability to become an NHL star one day, as he has drawn comparisons to Cam Atkinson, who is having a fantastic year over in Philadelphia.
