The Edmonton Oilers look to keep their home winning streak alive tonight against the St. Louis Blues. The Oilers have won their last 8 games at Rogers Place. The Edmonton Oilers recently have been taking home advantage seriously. If they win tonight that will make it 9 regulars season wins in a row, tying their team record from 2017.

This is going to be the toughest opponent they have played at home since the start of this streak. The Blues have two more points than the Edmonton Oilers, but have played two less games. The Blues are in the fight for a playoff spot just like the Oilers are.

The Central Division is a tight race for the 3rd place spot. The Blues currently hold it, but Nashville is 1 point back and Dallas is 4. So in no way are the Blues guaranteed a playoff spot. They need wins, so they are going to come in and play a hard 60 minutes.

The Pacific Division is just as tight of a race. The Los Angeles Kings hold down 2nd while the Edmonton Oilers are 3rd, 3 points back with 2 games in hand and Vegas is outside of the playoffs, 3 points back of Edmonton. Vegas is in a tough spot though as they have played one more game than the Edmonton Oilers.

Looking at the standings, the Edmonton Oilers will have to collapse to fall out of their spot. That being said they have a harder stretch of games than Vegas, which will be good as they look to get into playoff form going into the playoffs and that started last game against the Kings and continues tonight verses the Blues.

This has the making of a very tight game. The Edmonton Oilers should own the possession battle and get more high quality chances against the Blues. The Blues have much better goaltending numbers, so the Oilers need to not get frustrated if they don’t get many goals.

This is going to be a game where the Edmonton Oilers defense and goalie need to play a solid game. With the Oilers playing against a solid goalie they need to not fall behind cause of a weak goal against. Either that be a defensive breakdown or a shot that needs to be saved.

50 Watch

Leon Draisaitl is currently sitting at 49 goals on the season. Last night Auston Matthews got his 50th on an empty net goal late in the game so Draisaitl is one being in the Rocket Richard race. Leon Draisaitl looking at the goal scoring race and seeing Matthews at the top is only going to push him to try and score more goals. He may not say it out loud, but he wants to win that award.
