With the trade deadline on March 21st, the Edmonton Oilers have the weekend to improver their team. One player that I think Edmonton should push to bring in is Carson Soucy. The Seattle Kraken defenceman is a solid shut down player that would look good on the Oilers back end.. He is also currently #19 on TSN’s Trade Bait List, so he is available.

Carson Soucy is a player that would fit in very well on the Edmonton Oilers left side. The Oilers currently are playing Darnell Nurse, Duncan Keith and Kris Russell. The addition of Soucy would add another larger, mobile defenceman.

Bringing in Soucy would bump Russell out of the lineup. Russell being the Oilers 7th defenceman is not a bad thing. Russell can play both left and right side. Him being the extra guy is an obvious upgrade on any of the other potential players.

Carson Soucy is a player that has a positive goal differential on a team that has the second worse differential in the league. The Seattle Kraken have a -64 goal differential. Even with that bad of a goal differential for the team somehow Carson Soucy is a +9.

SOUCY-BARRIE

I think having a Soucy and Barrie pairing will  work well into the playoffs. With the puck moving ability of Barrie and Soucy’s ability shut down the cycle, this pairing would be good at both ends of the rink.

If the Edmonton Oilers were able bring in Soucy they would add some much need depth on the back end. We saw earlier this season in December what happens when the Oilers get into injury trouble on the back end, and its not good.

This is going to be an expensive deal for the Edmonton Oilers to pull off. The 27 year old dman still has one year left on his deal after this year with a cap hit of $2.750 million. With Carson Soucy being locked up and at that good of a cap hit the Kraken will no let him go for cheap.

Look at the Brandon Hagen trade from earlier this week and what the Oilers are giving up in the my projected deal and what I am projecting may not be enough.

Overall I think that adding Soucy would be a great addition. The issue is asking price. I am not quite sure if Holland would be willing to give up that much this deadline.
