The Edmonton Oilers look to keep their winning streak going tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres themselves also look to keep their streak going. They are coming off two wins against solid opponents, the Vegas Golden Knights and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
This is another one of those games that the Oilers should win. They did a good job on Tuesday against the Red Wings starting the game fast and strong. Unfortunately after they built that lead their defensive game stopped working and they allowed the Red Wings back into the game.
They still won the game, but this is a trait I would love to see leave the Oilers. They had the same thing happen to them in Washington earlier this year as well. Hopefully the Edmonton Oilers can get off to a fast start again tonight, but keep the lead this time.

Just like on in Tuesday’s game against the Red Wings, the Oilers are leading in almost every category. One place the Oilers are trailing the Buffalo Sabres is the penalty kill. Hopefully this is a game where they will not allow a powerplay goal against. That is something they need to get under control during this drive towards the playoffs.
At least the Oilers were able to score a powerplay goal on three chances last game. This is a rate I would like the Oilers to continue to click at. If they can bring their powerplay success rate closer to 30% this would bring them back into an elite team to play against.
I have a feeling this is going to be another high scoring game. We all know the Edmonton Oilers have the ability to score goals so the Oilers scoring is something I don’t worry about. The Oilers ability to keep goals out is more of the issue.
Mike Smith will be starting the game tonight. He has struggled lately, so hopefully he can right the sinking ship before the Oilers need to bring up Skinner. I think this is his last chance to prove he can add value to this team.
I do have the Edmonton Oilers allowing 3 goals, but I don’t think they will fall on Smith. I also don’t think Smith will have an outstanding game. He will be average, but him being average is still an upgrade on what he was that last few games.
