In the last 5 games Mike Smith has averaged a save percentage of 0.812% in his starts. This is unacceptable for a NHL starter. If the Edmonton Oilers are hoping to win games they are not going to win it when your goalie has a save percentage that low.

As for his whole season it is slightly better than his last 5 games. In his 13 starts, he has only had 4 quality starts. That is less than a 3rd of his starts, this is the worst of the 3 goalies that have started games for the Edmonton Oilers. As for really bad starts he has 3. This means he has had only 1 more good start vs bad starts.

That is a problem, which means when you start a game with Mike Smith, you are almost just as likely for him to have a terrible start as you are for him to have good start. This is alarming for me, because you are supposed to rely on you starting goalie. Having a coin flip chance of him having a bad start is not reliable.

I don’t think that the Edmonton Oilers can go forward with Mike Smith as their number one goalie. Heck I don’t think Smith is even the second most dependable goalie on this roster.
