Last night the Edmonton Oilers lost a game to the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3. In my opinion this was one of the better game the Oilers have played as of late. The only bad thing for the Oilers was Mike Smith, who allowed 4 goals on 22 shots. That’s a save percentage of 0.818. The save percentage is not going to win you any games.
Edmonton Oilers Have A Goalie Problem
This isn’t the first time in recent memory that the Edmonton Oilers have played a good game that has been wasted due to their goaltending. So far this season the Edmonton Oilers have had 3 goalies start games for them. Mikko Koskinen has played 28 games, Mike Smith has played 13 games and Stuart Skinner has played 13 games.
In a perfect world Ken Holland would be able to go out and trade for a bona fide starter. With that not looking like it is going to happen anytime soon, they are going to need to run with the 3 they have.
With the goaltending letting the Edmonton Oilers down so often lately, I look through the stats of the 3 goalies currently on the roster. At the end I will put together a ranking of how I think the Oilers coaching staff should be using the goalies.
