The Edmonton Oilers put their 3 game winning streak on the line tonight as they face the Anaheim Ducks down at Rogers Place tonight. The Oilers since replacing Coach Dave Tippett with Jay Woodcroft have yet to lose a game. Have they been perfect, no, but they have played good enough to get wins.
Tonight should be a game the Edmonton Oilers should win. The Ducks are coming off a 6-2 loss last night against the Calgary Flames. They will be tired from playing and they are going to be coming in feeling defeated after getting beat pretty badly.
The other thing is they pulled John Gibson at just about the halfway point. This mean that neither of the goalies are going to come in well rested. So it doesn’t matter which goal gets the start for them tonight they will be a bit tired from playing half a game last night.
This is something the Edmonton Oilers need to take advantage of. If this team has a good start, the past shows that they should win the game. The Oilers have never lost a game when they score the first goal. That is why scoring first is so important to them.
Edmonton Oilers Special Teams
One area that needs to be better for the Oilers is on the powerplay. In the last couple games the Edmonton Oilers have really struggled on the powerplay. It is nice that they are still winning games, but they could be winning games by more if they are able to put in a few more on the powerplay.
One thing that has improved since Woodcroft took over is the penalty kill. Before Tippett was fired the Oilers were lucky to kill off a penalty. Even when they were winning games they were winning even giving up goals while on the penalty kill. I noticed that there has been a couple different players out on the kill.
One of the players on the penalty kill now is Ryan McLeod. McLeod and Woodcroft have a history from Bakersfield. This is one of the things that I thought would happen when they appointed Woodcroft. He is comfortable with some players and he is aware of what they bring. Personally with his speed, I don’t know why McLeod wasn’t on the penalty kill before.
Play For The Win
This is another one of those games the Edmonton Oilers should win. I’ve said it pretty much every game that the Edmonton Oilers are heavily favored in and they have lost some of them. I don’t know what it is with this team and losing to teams that they should beat, but hopefully Woodcroft can change that. Tonight is his first time to show us that this is a different Oilers team, so hopefully they look like the better team and get the win.
