The Edmonton Oilers are back in action tonight as they take on the Vegas Golden Knights down at Rogers Place. This is their first game of a very busy part of their schedule where they are playing 5 games in the next week.
The Oilers are still sitting outside of the playoffs looking in. If they want to get back in the race they are going to go on a winning streak. Having a busy schedule is a good time to do that. If the Edmonton Oilers can get in a winning groove it could help. With the games so close together they get to stay in the that groove.
The Vegas Golden Knights on the other hand are first place in the Pacific Division. After having a slow start to their season the Knights have found hit their stride and are rolling at a good pace, on their way to what looks like will be a 1st place spot in the division.
The Golden Knights are only going to get better as well. Their early season trade for Jack Eichel is one of the biggest trades in recent history. Although he required surgery right after the trade he is currently practicing with the team and is taking contact. Once he is in the lineup it should put the Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche in a different bracket in the Western conference.
If the Edmonton Oilers can beat the Golden Knights and keep banking points they may also be able to put their name in that upper bracket. Right now there is way to much inconsistency in their game. There always seems to be some sort of issue in their game. They either can’t get good goaltending or if they do they can’t score goals. Although it was getting better before the All-Star break though.
Mike Smith is back from injury tonight. Mike Smith hasn’t played a game since January 5th against the Toronto Maple Leafs. So far this season Smith has a 0.898 SV% and a GAA of 3.76. If this team wants to win some games, those numbers will need to get better. I believe that the numbers will get better.
