The Edmonton Oilers once again are playing one of NHL’s weaker teams in the Ottawa Senators. After beating the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday the Oilers have now won 4 in a row. This is going to be a different game than when these teams last met 2 weeks ago. In the game the Edmonton Oilers gave up a 3-1 third period lead by allowing 5 goals by the Senators.

In their last 4 games on this winning streak the Edmonton Oilers have averaged 4.5 goals for while allowing an average of 2.25 goals against. In these games they have not only been able to finally increase their scoring, but their goalies have also played very well. Mikko Koskinen has been the starter in the first 3 where Stuart Skinner played against the Canadiens.

The good goaltending is a major part of this teams turn around. In the 5 games before this current streak the Oilers goalies were allowing an average of 4.6 goals against. You cannot expect a team to win if they are regularly allowing more than 4 goals in a game. This has shown in the last 4 games. They are averaging 2 less goals against in the last 4 games.

Now it also helps that the goalies are getting run support recently. As I mentioned above with the 4.5 goals for average. In the 5 games prior to the streak they were scoring an average of 1.8 goals. You have almost no chance to win a NHL game if you score less than 2 goals. So no wonder they didn’t win many games.

Does the Edmonton Oilers streak continue?

This should be another win for the Edmonton Oilers. Although I said the exact same thing the last time these two teams played. This is a different Oilers team than last time. Not only did this team add Evander Kane to their top six, this team is on a winning streak vs a losing streak.

There is not as much pressure on the team to get a win, so they will come in more relaxed. Are they going to win by a large margin like on Saturday, I don’t think so, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
