Evander Kane to Sign With Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton Oilers Final Get Their Man

According to all reports the Edmonton Oilers have signed Evander Kane to a one year deal for $975k in actual cash. Prorated to a whole season becomes a $2.094M AAV. Although the deal has yet to become official, the addition of Kane is going to be a huge help to this organization.

No Suspension Handed Out

This news comes shortly after the NHL concluded their investigation on Evander Kane’s cross-border travel and did not suspend him. This means that he now becomes a unrestricted free agent that can sign with any team and it appears that team will be the Edmonton Oilers.

This has been a long time coming that the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to Evander Kane. As soon as his contract was terminated with the San Jose Sharks it seemed like he would be a perfect fit.

Off Ice Matters Too

Even though there is no doubt that Evander Kane will help on the ice, but Kane’s issues haven’t been on the ice. There has been several issues that have followed Kane around. I assume Holland checked into these issues and asked around before making this signing.  Making this signing is one that may change the attitude in the locker room. So he would have likely asked the leadership group if they would be okay with bring in Kane.

Stats Don’t Lie

If Evander Kane arrives in Edmonton tonight, he should be able to get in a practice before next game. This means that he could make his Edmonton Oilers debut on Saturday night when the Oilers play the Montreal Canadiens.

I don’t know where Dave Tippett is going to slot Kane. Personally if he is on Connor McDavid’s line I don’t think it matters who is on the other wing, whoever it is they will fine success. Hopefully this is the finisher that McDavid has been waiting for, asides from Leon Draisaitl.

I am looking forward to seeing Kane on this team. He adds some grit, but also has the skill to make the plays required to stay there full time. If he is able to make his start in Saturday, I highly recommend keeping an eye on him cause you will be most impressed with this pick up.
