The Edmonton Oilers did it, they finally won a game. After going more than a month without getting a win, they were able to beat the Calgary Flames last night, 5-3. The Oilers last win came against the Seattle Kraken on December 18. Since then the Oilers had lost 7 straight.

A 7 game losing streak is never good, but it was multiplied by the amount of days that streak was. There was 35 days between each of the Edmonton Oilers wins. So it may have only been 7 games but it felt like an eternity since they last won.

In last few games of the losing streak you could tell this team was starting to play better. They were up against the Ottawa Senators then blew a lead in the third period. Then they played what I thought was their best period of the season in the first period of the game against the Florida Panthers only to end up losing 6-0

This followed by grind it out win against the Calgary Flames is a good sign. I think this win could be the first domino to fall in much needed winning streak for the Oilers. As of right now the Oilers are only 4 points behind the San Jose Sharks, who currently hold the final wild card spot. The Oilers do have 5 games in hand so that gap should be easy to overcome.

The Edmonton Oilers are now on a stretch were the next 5 games are every second night. This is a perfect opportunity to get in rhythm following this win against the Flames. In these games they play the Canucks in Vancouver, Predators in Edmonton, they then go on a eastern road trip where they take on the Canadiens, Senators, and Capitals.

The Oilers should beat the other Canadian teams. Then when it comes to the Nashville Predators and the Washington Capitals, if they can play like they did in the first period against Florida, but for a full 60 minutes they should be able to get the win. This team needs to start banking points in the standings again.

When this team is confident and enjoying playing the game they have success. So the more wins they can build up the better they will end up playing. That is why I am not going to be surprised if when the Oilers come back to Rogers Place on February 8th they will be back in the battle for top spot in the Pacific division.
