Young Defenseman

The one area of depth that the Edmonton Oilers do have to trade is on defense. We have been able to see some of the depth this season. With the injuries to all the NHL defenseman there has been a lot of call-ups from the Bakersfield Condors.

We have seen Philip Broberg and Markus Niemelainen in the NHL for the first time, on top of William Lagesson who has already played games in previous seasons. There is still several more that are playing with the Condors that we haven’t seen yet.

Dmitri Samorukov and Michael Kesselring are players that didn’t get the call up as there is still areas of the game that they need to improve on. Even though there is improvements that need to be made, they are still good assets for any team.

If you are going to trade away one of these defensive assets, the more NHL ready they are the more you will be able to bring back in return. The Oilers need to be careful when it comes to trading away young players though, as they do not want to hurt their future too much.
