The Edmonton Oilers have struggled to find a goaltender that helps them win games for what seems like years, many different names have come through the Oilers and gone just as fast.

With Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen playing strong to start the season with the Edmonton Oilers. it’s looking more likely that both of them are going to be the ones between the pipes to help the team towards a Stanley Cup.

But, if either one was to slow down, or begin underperforming close to the trade deadline, Marc-Andre Fleury is an ideal candidate to inquire about. The Blackhawks are struggling to start the year, with a 0-7-2 winless record going into November, it’s no surprise that Fleury is growing agitated and upset with the team in front of him.

Through 5 games, Fleury has a record of 0-5-0 with a 4.63GAA and an 872SV% to his name. A struggling Fleury could want a change of scenery, and he could flourish in Edmonton.

Jonathan Willis, a writer for the Athletic, suggested that the cost of Fleury would be cheaper than someone like John Gibson, who would likely cost Koskinen, Yamamoto, 1st Round Picks and a prospect.

My hypothetical trade for Fleury would look like this:

Oilers Acquire: Marc-Andre Fleury (25% Retained by Blackhawks)

Blackhawks Acquire: Mikko Koskinen, Kailer Yamamoto, 2022 3rd Round Pick.

This is all speculation, but with Fleury nearing the end of his career and the Oilers wanting a Stanley Cup, the combined variables with a star-studded team in front of him could be the finishing touches to an almost perfect team at the beginning of the season.

Holland seems to be willing to make moves if it means a win in the near future, and I believe pulling the trigger on a deal like this could have the Oilers celebrating their next Stanley Cup sooner than later.
