Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers has been off to a hot start through the first two games of the regular season.
It might be early, but Connor McDavid has had the start of the season the team has needed from him. Through the first two wins of the season for the Edmonton Oilers, McDavid has five points including three goals and two assists. The road to 150 points definitely seems like a possibility.
The Edmonton Oilers need their top guy to be at his best, and through the first two games, McDavid has been just that. Putting up ten shots, three goals, and two assists through the first two games.
McDavid is a generational talent, one the Oilers are lucky to have. The line of McDavid, Draisaitl, and Puljujarvi has been fun to watch and outside of that the depth has started to show up, while the bottom six might not be scoring a lot of goals so far they definitely were creating more chances the past few games.
The Oilers’ first two games came in critical matchups against divisional rivals, and those are the types of games the team needs their top star to be at his best. Luckily the team got that from him in the first two matchups.
Two of McDavid’s goals have come on the power play, while the third was an empty net, all in the same game against the Flames. So getting some five on five goals might not be a pressing issue when you can score power-play goals at will, but at the same time let’s hope the success at five on five comes for this team as well.
The power play has been pretty fun to watch through the first two games of the season. With the majority of the shots coming between the hashes or within the slot up high. Edmonton has been lucky to convert on their power play opportunities and that is led by McDavid and Puljujarvi who both have goals on the man advantage.
The Oilers’ next game is on Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks, this game should definitely be a great opportunity for the Oilers to roll all their lines and build momentum moving forward. Anaheim is not the strongest team in the league and should give the Oilers a confidence boost before playing Vegas on Friday.
