The Edmonton Oilers recently announced that they have signed Colton Sceviour who was playing with the team on a professional tryout contract throughout the preseason. There were questions about whether or not Sceviour would make the lineup, but he has earned his spot over some other players in the organization.

Adding Sceviour gives the Edmonton Oilers that last piece of depth they needed.

Adding Sceviour on a tryout contract, and officially signing him earlier today gives Edmonton that last forward they were looking for. Sceviour is not just going to sit on the bench either, the 32-year-old had ten points last year with the Penguins, and he will be looking to replicate some success in Edmonton.

With Archibald out with an injury, Edmonton needed a few more depth options to work with this season, Sceviour offers that for the team. Now, here is what the lineup could look like during the first game of the season against Vancouver:

Draisaitl – McDavid – Puljujärvi
Hyman – RNH – Yamamoto
Foegele – Ryan – Sceviour
Perlini – McLeod – Turris

The line of Foegele, Ryan, and Sceviour definitely is going to be something different than what the team has had in the past. Honestly, when looking at the entire roster I like how deeper this group is.

Brendan Perlini can score goals, Sceviour provides some physicality, and Foegele is a player this team has been missing for a long time. With game one of the season against a divisional rival like the Vancouver Canucks, one would expect Sceviour and the third line could find the ice a lot tonight to provide a physical presence to the team.

Hopefully, the Oilers walk away with a win, and Sceviour can stay in the lineup for the foreseeable future. Having signed the 32-year-old for one year at under a million dollars, the money is definitely going to be an issue with this deal. Edmonton is not giving up cap space, and Sceviour is getting another opportunity in the NHL to maybe get a bigger contract next year with a team.
