The Edmonton Oilers take on the Calgary Flames in the first game of the preseason tonight.
The Oilers won’t be playing that many big-name players, but this will be an opportunity for other players to impress in the first preseason game of the year. First impressions matter, and for a lot of Oilers, this is a big time to show some impressions for what they can bring to the team in 2021.
Edmonton will be led by Ryan McLeod tonight, their young guy. There are a lot of different players in the lineup but up from tonight is about establishing what the bottom six should look like and there is a real chance this will take a few games.
With the amount of AHL players and prospects playing in the game, there is no doubt that any outcome that occurs will be covered through a lens. Go ahead and take at the projected lineup for yourself the Oilers put out today on Twitter. Obviously, things could change a little before puck drop but this assumes to be the group they are running with tonight in Calgary.
Tonight’s game is also about making sure Evan Bouchard is comfortable and capable of being an NHL defenseman. One would imagine that a lot of his games will be with other players in the league already so that he can go up against the best of the best.
The Calgary Flames also let everyone know their projected lineup tonight. There are some big-name players playing like Milan Lucic. It will be interesting to see how the Oilers do against the heavy-hitting Flames under Darryl Sutter.
This might just be a preseason game, but it is the first game to begin the 2021-22 season for the Oilers. Now is when they get to face off against an opponent and drive to show up to win since they last took the ice against the Winnipeg Jets.
