This season sees the Edmonton Oilers in the mix for a playoff spot once again. This year hoping not to fall short in the playoffs. It will begin with a great regular season which means a lot of points during the regular season.

Can the Edmonton Oilers exceed their projected point total in 2021-22?

The line for the Edmonton Oilers, according to WynnBET, is 97.5. That point total might seem like a lot, but for a team like the Oilers in a weak division, that probably won’t be too hard to come by.

The Edmonton Oilers should be able to exceed that point total dramatically in 2021-22. Edmonton finds themselves in one of the weakest if not the weakest division in the entire league this year. They get to play teams like Calgary, Seattle, San Jose, and Anaheim a lot this year. While some of the teams have taken steps forward, like Los Angeles and Vancouver, there still is a good chance Edmonton should be able to control a lot of these games.

Personally, I think Edmonton will be pretty close to Vegas for the top of the standings in the Pacific this season. Edmonton and Vegas have not played eachother since the 2019-20 season, so I am excited to see how things go out of the gate in that regular-season series.

If Edmonton can win their games against the Golden Knights and secure those hard points, then the easier points against worse opponents should be a little easier to come by.

McDavid and the Oilers have only gotten 97 or more points once together in 2016-17, and you can bet the group wants to get back up there in the standings. Last year during the shortened season, the team had a point percentage of .643. During the course of a full 82 game season, they would have been well over the 97.5 point total we are talking about here. They would have gotten about 105 points.

When looking at the division, there is no doubt that Edmonton can beat a lot of the teams they will have to play in the division. I think it will be fun to watch this year whether or not the Oilers can be the dominant team they need to be in this big win or go home year.
