The Edmonton Oilers had some unfortunate news to announce earlier on Wednesday. Dylan Holloway will miss more time with a wrist injury.
The Edmonton Oilers will be without Dylan Holloway for at least the next three months.
Holloway was drafted 14th overall in 2020 and while he has not played a game in the NHL yet, this could have been a big season for the young forward. The 19-year old put up 35 points in 23 games with the University of Wisconsin last season, and in three months it will be interesting to watch him develop in the AHL.
While Holloway did have surgery in March to repair a wrist injury, it was still bothering him which led to the surgery that will now be keeping him out of the lineup for a while. That decision to get this surgery is obviously the best move for his career as now hopefully he will come back better than ever by January.
Holloway signed his entry-level contract with the team this year, and at some point will be one of the best players the team has down the middle outside of McDavid and Draisaitl. The former 14th overall pick is one of the team’s best prospects and hopefully, soon he will be able to get into the league.
Edmonton’s lineup looks to be filled up for the season, but it definitely is not out of the realm of possibility for an injury or two to occur which pushes Holloway into the lineup come March or even come playoff time. Even if he doesn’t play in the postseason one would expect he will be near the team practicing with the roster in order to gain a little experience and get used to the NHL.
If Holloway can make the jump to the NHL in 2021-22 then the Oilers might be able to fix their bottom six with depth from the organization. Hopefully, we will see him in an Oilers jersey sooner rather than later. Best of luck on your recovery Dylan!
