The Edmonton Oilers should be a playoff team this season. With the roster they built and the division they are in, the chances of making the postseason and putting on a run should be high.

The Edmonton Oilers have not had a lot of playoff success with Connor McDavid.

Hopefully, that changes this season. A lot of different teams have put together good rosters, but for Edmonton, it was not just about improving different positions, it was about finding the right fit for the team to succeed.

The Oilers have struggled in the playoffs when it matters the most. This year there are no more excuses with this team. So with that in mind, here are five different reasons the Oilers can be a playoff team this season:

1. Better Top Six

The top six really only added one player this offseason, Zach Hyman, but that one move definitely improves the team a lot. Edmonton has two first-line units in Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman combined on one line and then Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl on another.

Those four players will make a really great offense in Edmonton and there is no reason all three of those guys won’t finish with at least 50 or 60 points this season. That top six will make things easy during the regular season and should be a good anchor throughout a playoff run.
