If there is one thing sports fans love more than watching sports, it’s playing sports fantasy. When it comes to the NHL fantasy the Edmonton Oilers are going to have a couple of players that could help you win your fantasy league this year. Each league has its own rules and scoring. For this article I am going to rank by goals and assists.

Goals

1. Connor McDavid

I think Connor McDavid will lead the Edmonton Oilers in goals for the second straight season. This year could be the year McDavid gets to the 50 goal mark. He had 33 in 56 last season which would prorate him to 48 in 82 games. After getting snubbed from NHL 22 cover athlete, I believe there is still another level for him to get to in his goal scoring.

2. Leon Draisaitl

Hitting the 50 goal mark two seasons ago, Leon Draisaitl has the ability to put up big numbers in the goal column. There is no reason to think he won’t be able to do it again.

3. Zach Hyman

Likely starting on Connor McDavid’s wing, the big free-agent signing, Zach Hyman was brought in to help score goals. I also think that he will be playing the net-front spot on the league’s leading power play.

4. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

After scoring 16 goals in the COVID 19 shortened season, I think Nugent-Hopkins will end up getting somewhere between 25 and 30 goals this full season. Playing the wing with either Draisaitl or McDavid, along with being on the powerplay is going to give him the opportunity to have lots of good looks.

5. Jesse Puljujarvi

Since coming back from playing in Finland, Jesse Puljujarvi has been a completely different player. He will likely be playing net-front after Hyman on the power play this season. Scoring 15 goals last season, there is no reason to think he won’t be able to break the 20 goal mark in an 82 game season.

Assists

1. Connor McDavid

This is a pretty easy pick for number 1 in the rankings. McDavid had 19 more assists than anyone else in the NHL. So it is a safe bet that he will once again be top of the league in this category.

2. Leon Draisaitl

Second in the NHL in assists, Draisaitl was 13 assists ahead of third place. Being part of NHL’s best power play will help drive Draisaitl’s assist numbers this year once again.

3. Tyson Barrie

After leading all NHL defenseman in points last season I predict Barrie to have a just as successful season this year. One difference is there will not be the time at the start of the season when he works to fit in on the power play. After signing a three year deal, I think he wants to prove it was not just a one-year bump.

4. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Being the other parameter skater on the power play, Nugent-Hopkins should be able to get a lot of assists. Having the option of giving the puck to any of the three above him in this list is a recipe for assists.

5. Darnell Nurse

Darnell Nurse will likely only get second unit minutes on the power play this season. That being said, he will make up for it by being the team’s time on ice leader. With the high ice times comes more opportunities for you to get points. With either McDavid or Draisaitl on the ice half the time there is always the chance for the Edmonton Oilers to score.

Taking a look at the stats from the last few seasons, it would be a smart move for your fantasy draft to take and an Edmonton Oiler player with both the first and second overall picks. Draisaitl and McDavid will likely both be in the top of the league in both goals and assists this season.
