Rob Schremp, a 35-year-old center, was born in Fulton, New York. He grew up playing hockey and has had a pretty solid NHL career, putting up a total of 54 points over 114 games. Schremp played 7 games with the Oilers, tallying 3 assists.
Rob was drafted in the first round of the 2004 NHL entry draft by the Edmonton Oilers, after spending time with the Mississauga IceDogs and the London Knights in the OHL.
With the IceDogs, Schremp tallied 80 points in 68 games, and in his second junior season after the first 3 games with the team, he was traded to London, where he added another 159 points in 122 games. After being drafted, Schremp returned to the Knights and scored a ridiculously impressive 145 points in only 57 games.
Throughout his NHL career, Schremp played with the Oilers, Islanders, and Thrashers, while also spending time in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield, and Bridgeport. Over the course of 292 AHL games, he averaged 0.73 points per game for a total of 214 points in that time.
Over the course of his career, Schremp has also played in the KHL, DEL, SHL and also spent time playing in Belarus and Latvia.
I was able to get in touch with Rob on Instagram, and I had the chance to ask him a few questions.
Who was your favorite player/team growing up?
Peter Forsberg was my favorite player. Colorado Avalanche. I loved watching Sakic/Forsberg/Roy
You played with lots of legendary Oilers, was there anyone that really stood out to you when it came to leadership and work ethic?
Ryan Smyth was the one guy that stuck out to me. He worked on his craft every single day and it was fun to watch how it translated into games.
If you weren’t a hockey player, was there anything else you would’ve wanted to be?
I always wanted to be a professional athlete. If it wasn’t hockey I would have been chasing the dream of Lacrosse or Golf.
If you had any advice for young hockey players aspiring to play at a pro-level, what would that advice be?
The game is bigger than the 20 guys sitting in the room. You are constantly being evaluated, do your best to always show the best version of who you are and what you can do.
A huge thank you to Rob Schremp for taking the time to answer a few questions!
