The Edmonton Oilers championship window is an interesting topic to discuss right now, as it already seems to be shutting with the way the team has played the last few seasons. Winning a championship needs to be a goal with the roster, so how long does the team have?

The Edmonton Oilers championship window is open, as long as McDavid is under contract.

Winning a championship is something Connor McDavid will do throughout his career. One would hope that it is with the Edmonton Oilers. The team is already entering the halfway point of his contract this season. This will be his fourth year of an eight-year contract giving McDavid 12.5 million a season.

During those past three seasons, McDavid and company have missed the playoffs, lost in the qualifiers, and lost in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They have not won a real playoff game during this contract so far.

Now, I do not think any of these issues are McDavid’s fault. The way teams play in the postseason is different than during the regular season, and come playoff time teams have just worked to shut him down while he is on the ice and score goals when he is off.

Edmonton probably has put together their best roster for the coming season with McDavid. Now the team has some depth up front and besides their goaltending things seem to be set for the next few seasons.

So overall, I think the championship window would be the next three years. If the team does not win a championship during the next three seasons this team will definitely be undergoing some major changes.

Now, with that all in mind, I do still believe that they need to see some success in the next year in the postseason. Getting out of the first round and into a conference final needs to happen. If the team doesn’t win a championship next season some playoff success needs to occur.

The Edmonton Oilers will be battling for a championship for the next few seasons. Getting a championship while McDavid is under contract has to happen. The team has Draisaitl, McDavid, and Nurse all under contract for the foreseeable future, but the next three seasons will definitely be a solid window for the team to win it all.

Of course, the Washington Capitals ended up winning their championship after it seemed like they were done, so we will just have to wait and see what happens!
