Connor McDavid. If you’re a hockey fan, you know who he is. Undoubtedly the best player in the league. His speed, shot, and playmaking ability all wow fans on a nightly basis. When McDavid is on the ice, fans, teammates, and staff all take a deep breath, because they never know what kind of magic the young Oilers captain will pull out of his bag of tricks.
The Oilers got eliminated early in the playoffs last season, much earlier than any hockey fan would’ve expected, by the Jets in 4 straight. This led to a lot of hockey fans believing that both McDavid, and Draisaitl would both want out of Edmonton, but they made sure to let everyone know this wasn’t the case.
Both stars have made it known they want to bring a Stanley Cup back to Edmonton, and the Oilers organization have done what they can to try and make that happen sooner than later.
2020-21 Season Grade: A++
Connor Mcdavid is coming off of a 33 goal, 72 assist season with the Oilers, totaling 105 points according to NHL.Com. Which in a full 82 game season would’ve been a career season for the phenom. His 49.5% faceoff percentage only adds to how successful and impressive his 6th NHL season was. In the playoffs, Connor continued to perform at his best and averaged a point per game with a goal and 3 assists.
The Oilers surrounded McDavid with veteran leadership, and forward depth they desperately needed. Zach Hyman, Warren Foegele & Duncan Keith will all bring new value to the team, and could ultimately bring the Oilers over the hump, and to a deep playoff run that they’ve been trying to accomplish since 2006.
2021-22 Stat Prediction: 45 Goals, 110 Assists, 155 Points.
Mcdavid will only continue to get better, and it’s scary to think we’ve still yet to see the best out of the young star. I predict he will run away not only with the lead-in points on the Oilers but in the league. Guys like Mackinnon, Kucherov & Matthews may come close to the three-digit point mark, but they won’t surpass Connor.
I also predict Mcdavid will unanimously win league MVP, and take home both the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay award. The entire league has defensive plays written around stopping him, and he still finds ways to fill, or help fill the net on a nightly basis.
