Vancouver Canucks

February 16, 2019

The Edmonton Oilers had a pretty good swap here. Sam Gagner was a more developed defenseman who was capable of playing and more and spent more time with the Oilers. While Ryan Spooner only played in 11 games this season with Vancouver and only had two goals with Edmonton through 25 games in 2019.

Philadelphia Flyers

This is another bad trade for the Oilers. Anthony Stolarz was a young goalie with less experience when Edmonton traded for him from Philadelphia. Cam Talbot had more experience and was not at his best when he was with the team, but has since been great in Minnesota and helped get them to a game seven against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Chicago Blackhawks

Not only did the Blackhawks drop a bad contract on the Oilers in Brandon Manning, but the team got Drake Caggiula was a fine addition to the team in Chicago.

This is an example of Edmonton trading away one of their better depth forwards that they are now missing. Caggiula was a great player in Edmonton and the team just did not know his value until he was off the team.
