Pittsburgh Penguins

Cody Ceci (Current Cap Hit $1,250,000, 53GP-4G-13A) UFA

Depending on what the Edmonton Oilers do this offseason regarding the right side on the blue line, Ceci could be a good option as a 6-7 defenseman. He is a right-shot defenseman that could come in and provide stability if there is an injury or play drops on a player.

Kasperi Kapanen (Current Cap Hit $3,200,000, 40GP-11G-19A) Trade

After being traded for from the Leafs last season I think there is a chance Kapanen may be on the move again this offseason. According to CapFriendly, the Penguins are projected to just over $1 million over the cap next year. Teams in cap trouble make trades where they get rid of money and ask for much in return. I think the Oilers could take advantage of this and be able to get Kapanen and for relatively cheap of a price.

Washington Capitals

Alex Ovechkin (Current Cap Hit $9,538,462, 45GP-24G-18A) UFA

I know it is very unlikely that Ovechkin will leave Washington, but he is slated to become a UFA so there is a chance. Plus I also like to picture the Ovechkin taking one-timers from the left circle during an Oilers powerplay. The Oilers need a scoring winger and Alex Ovechkin is the goal-scoring winger. Assuming he is looking at getting more than $10 million a year it would be a cap decision for the Oilers to sign him, but a person can dream.

After going through the league team by team looking at who could help the Edmonton Oilers I learned that Ken Holland has a lot of holes to fill in this Oilers line-up. With that being said there is also a lot of players from various teams to plug the holes. This offseason will be an interesting one for Oiler fans. From the Seattle expansion draft(July 21) through the draft(July 23) and finishing off with the beginning of free agency(July 28), there will be a lot of opportunities to make changes.
