After their win in Detroit on Saturday, can the Edmonton Oilers maintain that momentum for the rest of the week starting tonight?

The Edmonton Oilers are in the midst of a long 4-game road trip. It started in Detroit on Saturday night when they beat the Red Wings 4-3 to kick off the east coast trip. This win wasn’t the prettiest for this franchise, but it was a learning curve for a lot of the role players on this squad.

Guys like Alex Chiasson, Kyle Brodziak, and Drake Caggiula stepped up in this game, and it’s this type of performance that can make the Edmonton Oilers a dangerous team in the Western Conference. Having consistent secondary scoring is vital for this team to make up for the lack of defense and goaltending.

What this team has displayed so far the past few weeks has been remarkable. One of the under the radar performances for this team has to be from defenceman Oscar Klefbom. He’s been one of the bright spots for the Oilers blue line.

He’s been a plus-8 in the 13 games played so far this season, and the reason for that is because he has turned into an offensive threat for the team. He’s tallied six assists so far this season, but the number of shots he’s taken per game is impressive.

That’s the key for this team, and why they have been so successful, it’s the number of quality shots they take per game. If everybody makes a conscious effort to be aggressive on the offensive end without causing unnecessary turnovers or bad plays, they give themselves a great chance to win.

It’s the reason why Mikko Koskinen has played so well the past two games. He isn’t asked to win the game for the team while they struggle to score more than one goal. He’s able to do his job and keep the game out of reach for the opposition while the Edmonton Oilers look to win games in dramatic or dominating fashion.

Can the Edmonton Oilers rip off another win tonight over the Washington Capitals?
