Spencer Foo is very interested in potentially signing with the Edmonton Oilers, as per multiple sources.
Gerry Johansson is a member of The Sports Corporation, the firm that handles contract negotiations for Spencer Foo. He talked to Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now a bit about Foo’s potential when it comes to signing in Edmonton.

“What I can tell you is obviously Spencer Foo is a really good player,” Johansson said. “I mean, lots of interest from teams. But what they have done I know is narrow it down to a very short list of which Edmonton is certainly on it. I don’t know exactly where they’re at in that process, but it seems to be proceeding. I certainly know Edmonton is right there.”
Foo is an outstanding forward and would provide more organizational depth on the right side. Through 38 games with Union College this past season, Foo had a breakout year, posting 26 goals and 62 points. He was an outstanding presence and was second (technically fourth; three players were tied for first with 63 points) among all NCAA skaters in scoring.
With a breakout season, as well as great speed, on-ice intelligence and scoring ability, Foo can bring a lot to the table. He is smart with the puck and has a great shot and playmaking ability. He is also able to carry his own line and has chemistry with any unit.
Foo is much like Drake Caggiula; though not the biggest player at 6-foot, 185 pounds, he has great speed and scoring prowess. Not to mention, he can also play centre and serves as a versatile member of the lineup.

As one of the top NCAA free agents, there is going to be a lot of competition, but the Oilers are apparently up on that list. If the Oilers do sign Foo, there is no guarantee that he will be NHL ready right out of the gate.
However, he will give the Oilers more depth and promise for the future. Additionally, he could crack the opening night roster and play NHL hockey right away, just as Caggiula did. It all depends, of course, on his effort and development. Still, it would be a great, cheap, entry-level deal that would work out well for Edmonton sooner or later.
