As no surprise, the NHL has nominated Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid for the Hart Trophy. The trophy goes to the league’s most valuable player.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky were also nominated. Only two of three of the Hart nominees remain in the 2017 playoff race.

McDavid led the NHL in scoring in his second season, posting 30 goals and 100 points. At just 20 years old, he also helped his team overcome adversity to return the playoffs after 11 long years. They even made a run for the Pacific Division title. McDavid also led them to the fourth seed in the West. Not to mention, he took on the captaincy as the youngest player in NHL history to do so at 19 years old.

This season has been an outstanding one for the Oilers’ young leader. He not only bounced back for a full season following a broken clavicle in his rookie year but went above and beyond. McDavid put up multiple multi-point games and also proved to be the fastest skater in the NHL. The Ontario native also made a name for himself across the league by never going two regular season games without registering a point.

McDavid also made a huge impact with Leon Draisaitl. Both young talents combined to post 177 points, making them the deadliest duo in the NHL. They led all other pairings in scoring, and continue to prove to be lethal against other teams.

With his impressive stickhandling ability and outstanding speed and drive, there is no one in the league that outplayed McDavid. He is in elite company amongst the league’s top players and also served as a captain in his first ever All-Star Game.

As McDavid seeks to carry his team deeper into the playoffs, he continues to outshine himself. Tied with Patrick Maroon and Mark Letestu, McDavid leads his team in goals this postseason (3).

He will continue to make an impact for years to come, but hopefully, after June, he will have a trophy to add to his shelf. McDavid already clinched the Art Ross Trophy with the highest scoring total in the league through 82 games.
