The Edmonton Oilers fought to the finish, and despite a tough competitor in Anaheim, the Oilers prevailed with a 3-2 overtime win Saturday.

With the victory, Edmonton tied Anaheim for the Pacific Division lead with 97 points. They also jumped to third in the Western Conference. In one of the most intense games of the season, the Oilers proved their worth. Here is everything else to take away from the game.

First off, the Ducks played a driven game. Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler made sure to remain physical and aggressive, often leading to frustration for the offence. Of course, they tried to shut down the first line, but Edmonton responded with an intense amount of pressure.

Connor McDavid has proven that he cannot be stopped. Despite interference calls and high-sticks, McDavid persevered and capped off a three-point night. He scored the first goal of the game, set up Milan Lucic for the tying power-play tally and earned yet another apple on Leon Draisaitl’s overtime winner. He has extended his 10-game point streak, and had yet another multi-point performance.

Draisaitl has also proven his worth, extending his point streak to 10 games as well with a goal and assist. He has over 70 points on the season and has proven that he and McDavid make up the deadliest duo in the league.

Patrick Maroon was outstanding. The former Ducks winger showed physicality and aggression toward his old team, and also made innovative stickhandling moves in the zone. He held onto the puck and did a lot for his teammates, and finished with a highlight reel helper on the Oilers’ first tally.

Cam Talbot was also solid for the team. He tied Grant Fuhr for most wins in a regular season (40) and kept Edmonton in the game. Talbot stopped 16 of 18 shots, including an unbelievable save on Corey Perry’s breakaway chance.

This team has proven plenty, and will now be in the race until the end of this year as they continue to push for the lone spot for first in the Pacific Division.
