Things on the Edmonton Oilers front are somewhat silent right now, and the thing that is getting many fans through this everlasting offseason is Pokémon Go. Each one is unique, and some are rarer and more powerful than others. However, each of them represents their own unique abilities, and a lot of them resemble many Oilers players.

To have some fun, and to take a break from all the news and tremors that the offseason has to offer, let’s compare some Edmonton roster players to some of the Pokémon featured in Pokémon Go.

Connor McDavid is Pikachu

Without a doubt, McDavid and Pikachu have similarities when it comes to their reputations. Like McDavid resembles the face of the Edmonton Oilers, Pikachu represents the face of Pokémon. Both also have underestimated powers.

While Pikachu is not the most powerful Pokémon out there, he possesses the ability to shoot jolts of electricity at various intensities. McDavid, like Pikachu, has an electric aspect to his game, and can either make electric plays that result in a wicked shot or a perfect pass.

As Pikachu is best friends with Ash and his group, McDavid is friendly and is a truly great member of the team. Both are strong voices of reason ad get along with everyone.

Milan Lucic is Charmeleon

Lucic is known for his temper, and is said to have a relatively short fuse. Combine that with his powerful fighting ability, and you get a high resemblance to Charmeleon, whose tail flares a bluish-white when he is excited.

Another thing that Lucic and Charmeleon have in common is their mercilessness. Lucic shows no mercy and can take on any man, just as Charmeleon will destroy his enemies with his claws without showing any remorse. Both of them turn aggressive and angry in the face of a strong foe.

With their headstrong, tough and gritty attitude and merciless ability to use force when necessary, Lucic and Charmeleon are one in the same.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is Jigglypuff

Baby-faced. Cute looking. Lethal in ability. Nugent-Hopkins and Jigglypuff hold so many similar qualities that they would resemble each other in alternate universes.

Nugent-Hopkins possesses a quiet ability, much like Jigglypuff. He looks small and innocent, thanks to the “Baby Nuge” reputation that his physical appearance gives him. However, once he unleashes his skill-set, it is revealed that he is a quiet performer who can rip a hard shot and make plays while going under the radar.

The same can be said for Jigglypuff, who uses his vocal cords and singing to make his foes drowsy, and that gives him the upper hand. Both are not the most powerful beings out there, but they both are silent and possess ability that can go unnoticed but become a threat to their enemies in the end.

Runner-Up: Squirtle

Darnell Nurse is Hitmonchon

Like Nurse, Hitmonchan has the will to fight, and is willing to do anything and fight anyone, as well as never give up. Nurse and Hitmonchan both hold “the spirit of a boxer,” and are gritty sand willing to fight.

As Himtonchan acts, Nurse never gives up. He takes on any man and will do whatever it takes to win, and he is someone who goes the extra mile and never gives up or backs down. His spirit cannot be fazed, and he continues to fight in the face of adversity.

Additionally, both of them are aggressive and fear no other opponent, and will take on anyone for the sake of the team.

Runner-up: Machop

Patrick Maroon is Machoke

Maroon is a pretty big guy, and he has the power to bulldoze anyone other and push through anything. He is also a pretty strong player. That’s exactly the same ability that Machoke holds.

Both of them hold great strength and determination, and like Machoke has muscles of steel, it takes a lot to take down and faze Maroon. They both possess immense strength and can push any enemy aside, as well as take on any foe.
