Former Edmonton Oilers enforcer Georges Laraque may come off as a tough guy with a lot of grit and aggression. However, beyond that exterior, one that collected over 1,100 PIM over his NHL career, he has a heart of gold, and even went to great length to save a young girl from being abducted.
According to CBC, Laraque was participating in a celebrity charity baseball game in Montréal, when he and his fellow players heard commotion from Jeanne-Mance park nearby.
Police say that a 7-year-old girl was with her parents in the park, when a man came up and grabbed the girl. The father supposedly beat up the suspect and got his girl back.

However, thanks to heroics of bystanders, fans surrounded the suspect to stop him from leaving the park, and Laraque was among them. He, along with many others, watched the suspect and assured he would not leave until police arrived and arrested him.
“I just wanted to make sure that if he got up, that I was going to tackle him right away,” Laraque told the media. “…I’m not Batman. Any citizen would have done the same thing.”
The 39-year-old Oilers alum also went on to say that the father was the true hero, and that the incident was truly “crazy,” as well as terrifying.
“I have twins and this could happen to anyone,” Laraque said. “We’ve heard stories of a child being abducted and to see like that, it’s pretty scary.”
