Letter from the Editor Before the Edmonton Oilers First Game
To Oil Country,
This afternoon, the Edmonton Oilers got off the plane and landed in St. Louis. Tomorrow’s game is going to be a big one, and since we can’t wait, we’re just going to make a countdown and talk about the exciting parts of hockey.

I know the following: this season is going to be a good one. I can feel the copper and blue rushing through my veins tonight. I am so excited to see these boys skate onto the ice and show the St. Louis Blues who we are.
Think about how much we’ve been through this offseason. We hired Peter Chiarelli and Todd McLellan. We drafted Connor McDavid. We made moves to help our team, as well as signings and trades that bought Cam Talbot, Anders Nilsson and Andrej Sekera here.
Things are a’changing here in Edmonton, and this will be my fourth month as editor, so here are my thoughts going into this season, as well as thank you to Oil Country.
This is my first NHL season as editor of Oil on Whyte. Tonight, on this Night Before the Oilers game, I want to thank the fans in Oil Country, the Oilers and Edmonton. This experience has been one of the best of my life, and I cannot wait to keep giving you guys posts. I cannot wait to share more with you this season.
I love Edmonton. I simply love the people, the fans and the city. In the short 18 years of my life, and in all my years as a die-hard hockey fan I have never seen a city with as much class, dedication, passion and love for their team. Edmonton, Oil Country and Oilers fans everywhere- you guys are amazing.
Last season, there was some inactivity for some time before this summer, and we cam back in triumph, and every day, we are making improvements to this site to provide you guys with every Oilers. We want you to feel like you’re rink-side or in the locker room, and we want this to be a forum for you guys, the fans.
Therefore, we promise that we will keep this site up to date, up to par and make it the best that it can be. We will make sure each experience for you, the fans, makes you feel like you’re right on the bench.
Oil Country, this is our time. The blood is rushing through our veins. We smile with pride as we put on our Oilers seaters. Tomorrow night, we will sit down in front of a TV at home or at a sports bar, and we will experience this new Oilers team.
This is our time, Edmonton. This is our year to bounce back- well, at least for us to get out of the bottom of the standings. There’s so much to be excited about and thankful for on this eve of hockey.
So again, as editor, thank you guys for your continued support. We are so excited to be back, especially after a long time of inactivity that was before this summer. We are going to make this site the biggest hub for Oilers news. I hope that you guys like the site and enjoy visiting it.
Please tell us in the comments if you like our site, what you think and any ideas for the future!
Cheers, and here’s to a great season!
Your editor,
Sammi Silber
