Jack Michaels To Replace Legend Rod Phillips

A replacement for revered play by play-man Rod Phillips has been hired today, and it sounds like he’s the right man for the job.

Meet Jack Michaels.

Michaels is a green horn in the NHL, however he’s got quite the broadcasting résumé under his belt.  Most recently, he called for the Alaska Aces of the ECHL.  According to the Oilers,  he was named the ECHL’s Broadcaster of the Year in 2004.  Michaels has also called the ECHL All-Star Game on five separate occasions.

An audio sample of Michaels’ work can be found here, courtesy of the Alaska Aces website.

Here’s another sample from 2007

From the sounds of things, Jack Michaels is NHL ready.  Michaels will join Bob Stauffer in the broadcast booth, and  is slated to call all but ten games this season.  The ten games he doesn’t call will be called by the legendary Rod Phillips in a series called “Rod’s Classics”.

A warm welcome and good luck to Jack Michaels this upcoming season.
