There are fans who buy jerseys and make sure to never miss their home team’s favorite games. Others get Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid tattooed on their thigh.

A Toronto-based tattoo artist known on Instagram as @kyleghostkeeper showed off his new ink featuring McDavid in detail Thursday. The tattoo has since gone viral and even made its way to the 20-year-old NHL superstar, who posted the final product to his own Instagram page.

Dongkyu Lee, the tattoo artist behind the McDavid ink, told The Score the tattoo took 17 hours to finish.

The tattoo features the Oilers captain in great detail, right down to the beard, jersey, CCM helmet visor and lighting.

According to Ghost Keeper, it was in the Oilers playoff series against Anaheim that he really started to love McDavid as a player.

“Once I saw them get Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler upset during the playoffs, that made me so happy and I was like I love these guys, I love this kid,” Ghost Keeper told TSN’s Bardown. “Just to see Getzlaf lose his cool was amazing.

“I thought the kid was something special and at that moment he became one of my favourite players of the modern NHL and I got this idea to get an NHL superstar/legend leg sleeve and figured I would start with Connor.”

Thankfully for Ghost Keeper, McDavid is already ranking among the NHL’s elite and is expected to develop into a generational talent.

McDavid was not only named the youngest captain in NHL history this past season but led the entire league with 70 assists and 100 points. He also took home the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s MVP, the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHLPA’s Most Outstanding Player and the Art Ross Trophy.

So, having that on his body forever is not the worst move. In fact, we think it’s pretty great. And he definitely takes the cake as one of the biggest fanatics we’ve seen.
