The Edmonton Oilers sent a huge message to Anaheim, as well as the rest of the NHL, with a Game 1 victory Wednesday. With the impressive 5-3 win, the Oilers told the Ducks they weren’t going down easy.

The Oilers now have the chance to take a commanding 2-0 series lead against the Ducks Friday. This would give Edmonton dominant control in the series as they head back to Rogers Place for Games 3 and 4. Here is everything you need to know prior to puck drop, including lines, keys to success and more.

Lines for Edmonton are expected to remain the

same. The Oilers displayed great chemistry on all of their units in Game 1. What greatly impressed was their top power-play unit, which put up two critical goals for the Oilers. Mark Letestu was of course a huge part of that, just as he has proven to have a great impact on special teams.

The defence pairings should also remain the same. Adam Larsson was another x-factor in Game 1, and will surely make a great impact throughout the series.

Keys to Success

A fast start is vital. The Oilers didn’t take the lead in Game 1, and though they responded well and clawed back to take the eventual win, getting off to a quick start is crucial. This will not only take the momentum out of Anaheim, but it will set the precedent early and give Edmonton control.

Additionally, getting help from all members of the team is another key to victory. Letestu and Larsson were vital pieces in Game 1, as well as Leon Draisaitl, whose empty netter and three helpers set the tone of the game. Each player brings different potential, and whether it comes in expected or unexpected form, it leads the Oilers to a win.

Lastly, the defence and Cam Talbot will be a huge key to winning. Talbot was outstanding in Game 1, but didn’t get too much help from his defence at times, especially when the Ducks tied it at 3. If Edmonton wants to win, they will have to be sure to protect Talbot and maintain puck possession, limiting Anaheim’s time and space.

The puck drops at 8:30 MT from the Honda Centre.
