The Edmonton Oilers top power-play unit is stacked with stars, but they usually rely on the presence of a bottom-six forward. Though Mark Letestu isn’t the top player on the roster, he wears many hats and owns his spot on the top unit.

In Game 1 against Anaheim, Letestu was a force. He finished the night with two power play tallies, and also had plenty of chances. Not to mention, he carried his line, won draws and played a solid complete game at both ends of the ice.

So far this postseason, Letestu has three goals and five points. Four of those points and all of his goals have come off the man advantage. Here is what he brings to the lineup, and how important he is to special teams.

When it comes to his all-around game, the veteran forward can bring a lot to the lineup. Not only can he play the penalty kill and serve as a top-notch centre, but he can create chances. Letestu is able to make an impact in front of the net in many different ways. For instance, he can create screens and deflect the puck, but can also grab rebounds and capitalize on bouncing pucks.

He will certainly be an asset to the Oilers this series, especially when it comes to their power-play chances. Edmonton’s offence struggled greatly in the first round, and the team will have to score whenever they can. Additionally, the Oilers have to make most of their time on the power play, especially to get past the Ducks defence and John Gibson.

When it comes to backchecking and playing the penalty kill, Letestu can win critical draws and defend effectively. He also knows how to block shots and maintain possession of the puck, and serves as an asset in this sense. Letestu’s role is vital, especially when it comes to being in control.

Overall, Letestu brings a lot to the lineup and knows how to play a solid game. In fact, he is probably one of Edmonton’s most important men on the power-play unit when it comes to results.
