The Edmonton Oilers got an outstanding three-point performance from an unexpected member of the team: Adam Larsson.

Despite being known as the stay-at-home defenceman who looks after the puck, Larsson had an offensive outburst. Posting two goals and an assist to boot, Larsson showed flashes of offensive potential. Not to mention, he displayed great speed and drive, and it seemingly came out of nowhere.

Larsson’s Breakout

Coming in on his first goal, Larsson was outstanding. He had a bullet of a shot from the slot, and it went right past an unsuspecting John Gibson. It surprised everyone, including his teammates; though they created traffic in front, Larsson’s shot was a dart.

On his second goal, he made an outstanding play that would make you believe he was one of Edmonton’s top forwards. With tremendous speed into the zone, Larsson drove the puck behind the net and then banked the puck in off Gibson’s back. The play was spectacular and helped Edmonton retake the lead with minutes to go in the third period.

Seeing this goal-scoring come out of Larsson, especially in a critical matchup, was amazing to watch. It also just goes to show how the playoffs push players to show their true potential, and that no one should count anyone out. Though the Swedish blueliner is not known for any kind of offensive acumen, he looked like an experienced puck-moving defenceman on those plays.

On the Backend

Larsson also played a solid defensive game, looking after the puck and adding a sense of security. He has been a wall this postseason and continues to bring something new to his game night in and night out. You may not have guessed it, but he is definitely an x-factor in the playoffs. And, he will be an x-factor in this series.
